It's been awhile...

Faithful Friends!  It has been such a long time since my last update before Christmas!  There are reasons…life has been crazy busy and has thrown some curves that both needed to be faced head on and others dodged. All in all, Christmas break was refreshing and I was able to spend some time with my extended family and lots of friends!  Starting back up the semester was good, especially knowing that it was my last before graduating!!!  School/band family went through a rough time when God called home our dear friend, Micah. Yet, we have seen the Lord’s faithfulness and provision in strengthening us and bringing us together as the body of Christ. Founder’s week was a great time of being reminded of this as well, and also encouraging us in serving the Lord faithfully. Spring break just finished, and as a band this year we went to Wyoming/Utah/Colorado/Nebraska/Iowa for our tour. This was an awesome time with friends and ministry, and I cannot believe that it was my last tour with the band!  Didn’t I just transfer in to Moody?  Currently, we are in the middle of recording our new cd, which will be out after next year’s recording (every 2 years a new cd comes out). It’s a very exciting time, yet I have begun to realize just how much life will change after graduation. I am going to miss so much of the ministries I have invested and poured my heart into!  Yet, as the Lord says in Psalm 46, “Be still and know that I am God”. This has been a verse that I have held onto the last couple months. He is in total, absolute control of my life and all that happens. I need not worry. Nothing surprises the Lord.
Obviously there is much more, but life continues to go on and I have more homework to get to now…hopefully we can talk soon!
*New pics coming soon as well!!!

God is SO good!

God is SO good!!!  You would not believe how many blessings and answered prayers that the Lord has been gracious to give!  The past month has been filled with uncertainty, weakness (both physical and mental), struggles, unexpected circumstances, many hugs and prayers from friends, time management choices, and many unexpected times of encouragement.

The main blessings and answered prayers surround one of the hardest things I have accomplished in my life – EMT National Licensing Certification.  September 11th was when I took the exam, and by God’s provision and strength, I passed!  I am now a licensed EMT!  Since this has been something I have wanted for awhile, and also have worked so hard to get to this point, I am very thankful to have passed the exam the first time!  I am also overwhelmed at the number of friends and family that were praying for me, sending me notes to encourage me, or even studying late at night with me. I know that I could not have done this without you all!
Many times throughout the last couple weeks there were some unexpected surprises that I did not want to deal with as I had so much going on already. For a few days, I was uncertain that I would still be at Moody in the spring because my records were showing otherwise. Unfortunately this was right before my EMT exam, and I was already reaching what I thought was my limit of handling life. Thankfully, God brought along 3 friends who were so loving and dear to me who prayed with me and helped me remember that God already had it all under control. Long story short, I will still be graduating in May 2013.
Some other things that have happened this month include wedding activities. A fun trip to Wisconsin for a dress fitting for a wedding in which I am a bridesmaid (the wedding is this upcoming weekend!) was a good time to get to know the other bridesmaids, and also spend some more time with my friend, Tasha, the bride!  It was also great to stop by my friend Peace’s house for dinner and to see her family too before we both headed back to Moody.  Another friend, Emily, and I played for a different wedding a couple weeks ago. That was an interesting experience as I did not have a keyboard until a couple days before the wedding. I was not sure I would be playing, but they found a keyboard and Emily and I had a great time playing together for friends whom we have known since freshman year.
Currently the Lord has placed a lot of people on my heart and mind, and also many people who I cannot do anything to help them out with what they are going through. These include family and friends, but also homeless on the streets of Chicago, the kids who I hang out with at AWANA, and church family. There is no way that I can help all of them, or even if I did I would never be able to help each of them to the extent needed. Prayer once again has been a lifeline and always will be. I am thankful for the little opportunities that I have been able to put a smile on someone’s face, or pray for them in their own struggles. I am reminded of the many times that the disciples thought nothing could be done to help the people, but then Jesus shows up and cares for them all, whether it be providing healing or food or new life in Him. Yet, how does Jesus show up in my own life and in these people’s lives whom I am praying for?  Food for thought.
And now for thoughts of sleep…before another day filled with prayer (and classes!).

Senior Year is here...wow.

As those of you reading this have probably already guessed, my life has been absolutely crazy the past couple months. A lot has happened that I have been overwhelmed, surprised, thankful, encouraged, and strengthened through.   First things first. EMT class has finished and I passed with an 81%!..I needed 80%.I definitely saw God’s provision in the little details of the class as each week was hard to make it through all the exams and studying.  My finals week had 4 exams, one of which was practical. This practical exam I passed with flying colors according to my prof, and he said it was one of the best that day. I am so very thankful that the Lord gave me quick decision-making and recall in that instance!  As it turns out, this also counted for the practical exam for my national license exam!  One less exam to worry about now!  Praying for all the paperwork to be completed was next, and now I have a date that I will be taking my licensing exam – 1:15pm on September 11.  This has put a little more stress on beginning my Senior year at Moody because I have to study for both now and it feels like I am taking 24 credits!
Relying on God and encouragement from friends to get me through!
Now that I am back at Moody I have taken on some different responsibilities this year.  I am still involved with band, but have taken on a new leadership role as band president.  This is going to be stretching for me in directing everything that happens, but mostly because I have to know what is going on all the time and not touch anything to help get things done otherwise I won’t know what is next for another group. I am a big ‘doer’ and I know that God is going to stretch me in this way. I have already seen the band come together as a team this past weekend for retreat, and it was awesome to see the band family back together.  I am also still involved with TNP (Thursday Nite Praise) ministry, and a few other events around campus, including my dorm floor. So far I love all my classes, but know that there will be some work involved. I have started work at the Solheim Athletic Center as a desk worker/game worker and look forward to getting to know my co-workers and staff there as well.
I look forward to what God has in store for my life this semester, and for the sweet times with Him amidst the craz-busy life of school.  A quote that I have on the wall says, “Courage is fear that has said its prayers.” ~Karte Wilson Baker. I am pretty sure that is going to define my next couple weeks. That and studying.
I would love to hear how the Lord is working in your life or if I can pray for anything specifically. Send me an email or FB message. Prayers & Blessings.

serving the King,
Heather
